The Wandering Blacksmith

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This page explains what information The Wandering Blacksmith collects when you visit this site, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.

Who we are

The Wandering Blacksmith is a work of fiction and the creative project of Rodrigo Urrea, referred to below as "we" or "us". You can reach us at hello@smytan.com.

What we collect

• What you give us. If you swear the Oath or ask to read the First Book, you give us your name and email address. If you ask to hear when the game's forge opens, you give us your email address. If you send feedback on the game demo, we receive what you write, and your email address only if you add it. That is the only personal information we ask for.
• Kept on your own device. Your progress through Smytan, your path, your guild, your journey, your notes, and the fossils you find, is saved in your browser's local storage, on your device. It stays with you. We do not receive it or store it on our servers.
• Collected automatically. Like most websites, our host may record basic technical information such as your approximate location, browser and device type, and IP address, as part of delivering and protecting the site.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors move through Smytan, which places are opened, which paths are walked. It uses cookies and collects usage data in aggregate; it does not tell us who you are. You can block it with your browser's settings or an ad blocker, and the site works fine without it.
• The game demo. The playable demo at play.smytan.com uses the same Google Analytics as this site, so a visit that begins here and continues into the demo is counted once. It records how a play session goes, such as how far it gets and whether it ends in a crash. The name you give your smith is never sent.

How we use it

• To send you the illustrated Blacksmith's Oath, and occasional news about the First Book, the game, and the world of Smytan, if you asked for them.
• To read your feedback on the game demo, and to answer it if you left an email.
• To run, protect, and improve the site.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not use it for advertising.

Your choices

• You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or write to us to have your details deleted, at any time.
• You can clear your browser's storage at any time to erase the progress saved on your device.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. Your continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
